In his nearly 25 years of involvement in the export credit industry, Marcelo helped establish the Brazilian insurance agency and led it from 2007 to 2017.
Marcelo is the former CEO of ABGF (the Brazilian Guarantees Agency) and SBCE (Brazilian Credit Insurance Company), the Brazilian export credit agencies. He held a leading role in the team tasked with creating the Brazilian ECA in the late 1990s. Following the successful establishment of SBCE, he headed the short-term trade credit business with the objective to crowd-in private players into the industry. After the development of the short-term business, he led the carving-out process of the officially-backed medium long-term business. As head of this line of business, Marcelo oversaw its growth to an US$ 18 billion portfolio with exposure to a variety of economic sectors and countries.
He has been in the credit insurance industry for 20 years and was vice president from 2012 to 2013 of the Berne Union, a not-for-profit trade association, representing the global export credit and investment insurance industry. He also participated continuously in the G12 Heads of ECAs, the BRICS ECA Forum and the Export Credit Group of the OECD for 10 years.
During his years of activity in the financial industry, he has accumulated solid experience in project management and corporate restructuring as a member of various boards. Marcelo holds a bachelor's degree in Economics and has an MBA in insurance and finance.
